Welcome to a long tradition of board gaming in Cork! Our focus is to play and explore the modern and inventive catalog of games available, rather than revisiting old classics such as Monopoly. We play every Monday at 6:30PM, and late comers are more than welcome if you can't make it at that time. We play upstairs at Bodega (44-45 Cornmarket St, Centre, Cork, T12 W27H). We are happy to have both experienced board gamers and new comers alike. If you're unfamiliar with the games that we are playing, we will be more than happy to explain the rules (Or learn them from you if you know one we don't)! The spirit of the night is friendly competition and laughter, making friends and sharing in an experience. It isn't required to sign up on Meetup in order to join us (We'll be happy you're here regardless! The vast majority of attendees don't actually sign up, though we like it when people do simply for the metrics). There's no future commitment, and you can come as frequently as you please when it suits you. A library of games is provided for everyone's use here. That said, the event works best when people bring their own games to share as well. If you have a game or two that you are happy providing for the evening, we would be enthusiastic and grateful for that! The price of entry is to purchase something from the venue. Bodega is quite happy to let us use the space as long as we are providing them custom. They sell drinks (both alcoholic and non alcoholic, including soft drinks and coffee), as well as having a dinner menu. As such, please be aware that outside food or drinks are NOT permitted at the event. We ask that people keep the space clean, and do their best to minimize the extra work their staff needs to do. In addition, due to this being a pub setting, we can only accept attendees that are at least 18 years of age. Ken O'Sullivan presents Stories from the Sea In his new show, Stories from the Sea , award-winning filmmaker Ken O’Sullivan brings us on his 25 year journey exploring the North Atlantic ocean and seas around Ireland, with stories, video pieces and personal insights into his experiences, from being surrounded by a pod of killer whales to swimming with thousands of dolphins and fin and blue whales, the largest animals ever to have lived . Ken regales us with stories of the beauty of the natural world and our emotional connection with it. Ken has now produced more than twenty natural history documentaries for RTÉ , with his last series North Atlantic acquired by BBC and broadcast in over 30 countries. He features alongside David Attenborough in BBC Earth’s Stunning Underwater Nature Footage , which has 7 million views on YouTube. The live show is a mix of film and stories from Ken’s 20 plus year long career . He pays homage to his family’s 250-year history on Fenit Island, Co. Kerry and our ancient maritime culture. Education and conservation have been at the heart of Ken’s work since 2005, long before it was popular to tell stories of damage and even devastation in natural history documentaries. He will talk about some of the great challenges facing our marine animals and habitats. Ken has donated his documentaries to education, where they now feature on the secondary school exam curriculum within the Junior cycle Geography and Business Studies courses. His book Stories from the Deep is critically acclaimed for its lyrical writing and descriptions of nature and animal encounters, as well as Ken’s honesty about his life as a film maker. Welcome! And thank you for joining Sew and Tell! At this round-table style meeting, we will show our recent sewing projects, share about new techniques learned, and lament about challenges faced. If you are new to sewing, there will be plenty of support from us. Our group primarily focus on apparel sewing, but all fiber arts are welcome. To share your sewing projects with the group, bring your project (finished or in progress), the pattern you used, or your new favorite sewing tool - anything sewing project related is welcomed! All levels of sewing knowledge are welcomed. More than anything, this is an opportunity to socialize and enjoy sewing related chat without the risk of someone asking you to hem their tousers! ;) We're looking forward to meeting you! Note: If you're new to the group and are curious about the format, see below for an example of what is usually shared with the group :) Into: your name, how long you've been sewing, what you like to sew most often if you're wearing something handmande, what is the pattern used and where is the fabric from bring 1 or 2 projects you have in process or finished most recently, along with the pattern if you have it talk us through the pattern used, where is the fabric from, pattern alterations, changes in construction method, what you think about the process, highs/lows of the sewing process, what you learned, ask any questions you may have if you are stuck on how to proceed pass around the table your sewing makes to everyone can look and feel and oohh and ahhh and tell you how beautiful your fabric is :)
