Family is the relationship we never chose — and often the one that shapes us the most. From the habits we carry without noticing, to the roles we can't seem to shake, to the disappointments that cut deeper than anything a stranger could manage — family gets in everywhere. This evening, we'll explore how the people we grew up with leave their mark on who we become, how we relate to others, and how we see ourselves. Warm-up question: What's a value or habit you have that you can clearly trace back to your family? Questions we'll unwrap on the night: 1. Why is it so hard to change how we behave around our family, even when we've changed everywhere else? 2. Why does family have the power to disappoint us in ways that strangers simply can't? 3. Do you think our parents gave us what they could, or what we needed — and is there a difference? This is a non-moderated discussion. We provide the questions and the space — then it's up to you to unwrap the theme. There's a philosopher in all of us — usually hiding behind the day's to-do list. We'll be meeting at The Beacon Pub, Salthill, at the back.
