His breakthrough came with the autobiographical hit "The Marquee in Drumlish", a tribute to his childhood and the cultural heartbeat of rural Irish music. Over more than four decades, Nerney has crafted a catalogue brimming with signature songs that resonate across generations—"Stop the World (and Let Me Off)", "Anna from Fermanagh", "Three Way Love Affair", and others—all co-written with collaborator Henry McMahon. A dedicated performer and storyteller, Nerney has remained ever-present in the Irish country music scene.
