For our next TOG Science Fiction Book Club, we’ll be reading Machines Like Me by Ian McEwan. Set in an alternative 1980s Britain, the story follows Charlie, who purchases one of the first commercially available humanoid robots — an “Adam”. What starts as a fascinating technological experiment quickly turns into something far more complicated, raising big questions about consciousness, morality, relationships, and what we really want from our machines (and from each other).
